The Monk Magnet Wallet Case ($35) from Sewell Direct is a magnetic removable folio case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Like a few other cases we’ve seen, Monk Magnet Wallet Case lets users remove the phone from the wallet folio for use — when removed, it sits inside a faux-leather backed shell case (the folio is faux-leather, as well). The magnetic attachment makes installation and removal simple. Monk Magnet Wallet Case has three card slots and a pocket for cash.
As is the norm with most folio cases, Monk Magnet Wallet Case doesn’t provide much protection, especially when the phone is used while solely in the shell.
Monk Magnet Wallet Case is a lot like Chil’s Attraction Jacket in design, with some additional benefits. This case will comfortably hold at least five cards, which is better than most folio wallet cases we’ve seen. And if you don’t mind faux-leather as compared to genuine leather, Monk Magnet Wallet Case also compares favorably to Twelve South’s BookBook — the latter has real leather, but also costs $25 more. There’s one drawback to Monk Magnet Wallet Case, though.
Unlike many of its competitors, its case doesn’t double as a kickstand.
The lack of a kickstand might push some customers away from Monk Magnet Wallet Case, but considering everything else, this is one of the better folio-style cases available for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. It’s got enough space to act as a reasonable wallet, unlike many options that offer three or fewer too-snug card slots. The magnetic attachment can be seen from both positive and negative angles — either as an easy way to use your phone away from your wallet, or as a possible problem that could knock your phone loose. A hard bump certainly could knock your iPhone out, but we shook the case around and the phone remained in place.
