Review: Twelve South BookBook for iPhone 6 Plus

Review: Twelve South BookBook for iPhone 6 Plus

Twelve South’s BookBook ($60) for iPhone 6 Plus is what we’ve come to expect from the worn leather folio case designed to look like a book, but with a few extra touches this time. BookBook uses the size of the iPhone 6 Plus to add an extra card slot — the case has five card slots, one with a plastic display for ID, and a pocket for cash. Another neat change is the ability to unhook the inner shell from the leather folio, giving users an iPhone in a thin plastic shell case if they don’t feel like toting around the total package. We didn’t receive the iPhone 6 BookBook for review, but it has four card slots compared to the five found in the 6 Plus version.

BookBook comes in black or brown.

Within the nice soft suede wallet is a rubber shell to hold the iPhone 6 Plus. The shell doesn’t provide coverage for the top or bottom of the phone, unfortunately, which makes us a bit hesitant about using it as a standalone case. Button coverage is also missing. We’d assume, though, that most users will use BookBook in its folio during most occasions.

BookBook also lets users shift the shell to create a stand — it’s well-implemented. There’s also still a camera hole on the back of the case for quicker snapshots, though the usual futzing with a folio cover still applies.

We find BookBook attractive, though there’s no doubt some would prefer a more sleek, modern case for a device like the iPhone 6 Plus. There are also questions about the overall thickness of the case — it’s not too svelte, on a phone that’s already taking up plenty of pocket space — and the lack of protection if you choose to use the shell by itself. If you are in the market for a wallet iPhone case, however, BookBook is still one of the best options available.
