AMBER actually means “America’s Missing Broadcasting Emergency Response” that sends you all kinds of emergency alerts from the government. These alerts are sent in a form of a notification just like you would receive a message on iMessage or from Calendar regarding an event.


Thanks to Apple, the government can alert iPhone users whenever a natural disaster is about to happen or whenever there is any kind of state of emergency. With AMBER enabled, it can prevent people from getting injured and save people in a countrywide emergency situation.

How to turn off AMBER alerts on iPhone

Since this feature is so important, Apple has allowed AMBER alerts to bypass “Do Not Disturb” settings in order for it to reach the user for safety.

AMBER alerts can be disturbing when one is sleeping or driving due to its loud notification noise, however people lives matter the most, which includes yours. Therefore, it’s recommended to leave AMBER alerts enabled at all times.

If you don’t care about your life and your family, here’s how to turn off AMBER alerts on iPhone

  1. Go to “Settings”.
  2. Tap “Notifications”.
  3. Scroll down to “Government Alerts” section.
  4. Toggle “AMBER Alerts” to turn it off.
Turning off AMBER alerts can cost lives, therefore you may want to think about it again before you turn it off. Leaving AMBER alerts enabled can save your life and your family when a natural disaster is about to hit your location.
