The Resale Economy: How to Flip Your Old Tech to Fund Your Next Upgrade

Every household has that mysterious drawer that’s full of old and sometimes unrecognizable tech. It’s messy, full of cables, and an opportunity to get some cash. However, that junk drawer can be a pile of treasure if you play your cards right. Here’s a short guide on how to do so.

Keep the Box

Packaging boxes are usually thrown out the moment the device is out of it, but do keep it if you plan to resell it later. Prices are significantly higher for items that have the original box and accessories rather than those without. Store them in your condo space at Tengah Gardens Residences until that time comes.

Do a Factory Reset Before You Sell

Don’t forget to wipe your personal details from the device before handing it over to interested buyers. Most will have a ‘factory reset’ feature that can be done quickly and with minimal fuss. It’s worth noting that you should remove the device from the cloud and deregister it from your accounts.

Listing Detail and Photos Matter

A professional-looking listing will get more views than one that looks hastily put together. This means listing all the specifications and imperfections, such as a scratch or stain. Don’t forget to take a photo with the gadget in natural light using a high-resolution camera.

Timing is Everything

The best window to sell a device is before its successor is announced. This way, it retains its value, and you could get more out of it. Otherwise, you can wait until it’s vintage or rare (which might take a few years or decades) and keep it safe and sound.

Choose the Best Online Marketplace

You’ll have the option to sell in three ways- via a trade-in program, resale sites, or in marketplaces such as Facebook or Craigslist. Each has its own pros and cons.
