WWDC 2019 kicks off June 3

Apple is holding its annual developers conference from June 3-7 in San Jose, California. Dubbed Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC), it has been the company’s major yearly event to showcase the work its done on the software and developer tools. For the consumers, the major takeaways will be the latest version of iOS, macOS, watchOS, and tvOS.

The company usually selects 5,000 paid developers through a lottery system as it can’t accommodate all the people. In the previous years, the tickets were sold in record time i.e under a minute a couple of times. WWDC has always been a popular event but since the iPhone came along, the interest has gone up drastically.

WWDC 2019 kicks off June 3

The developers get to attend events for a whole week, the first day beginning by the keynote where new softwares and tools are unveiled followed by hands-on sessions. A range of seminars held by Apple engineers, usually a thousand Apple engineers make their way to the WWDC to help the developers. Tim Cook once joked that during the WWDC, Apple had shut shop for a week so that the engineers could teach new things to the developers.

Students can avail free tickets

Apart from the paid entry to the event, students have the option to apply for a scholarship. To do so, the student has to create a playground in Swift using Swift playground on an iPad or on Xcode on a Mac. This year, Apple urges students to create a “creative” interactive playground and if need be, suggests the use of ready to use templates. Selected students also get accomodation for free and if required can also apply for travel assistance i.e air travel to be covered.

WWDC 2019 kicks off on June 3, this years the major releases will be iOS 13 and the next version of macOS which could add major iOS apps to the Mac. Also, we may get a sneak peek at the long awaited modular Mac Pro.
