Apple TV Plus film The Banker premiere cancelled

Apple TV Plus appears to be having a rocky start as it fails to deliver content in the early months of its release. While some of its shows have received positive reviews, it has not been able to generate enough content which could change in the future though. However, the important news at the moment is that the streaming service’s first big theatrical movie has met with some problems.

The Banker a movie Apple purchased earlier this year, is now under the #MeToo scanner as the producer has been accused of sexual misconduct. The movie was supposed to premiere on the 21st of November, at the AFI Fest in Hollywood followed by a theatrical release on the 6th of December.

Apple TV Plus film The Banker premiere cancelled

“We purchased The Banker earlier this year as we were moved by the film’s entertaining and educational story about social change and financial literacy,” an Apple representative said in a statement to The Verge. “Last week some concerns surrounding the film were brought to our attention. We, along with the filmmakers, need some time to look into these matters and determine the best next steps. In light of this, we are no longer premiering The Banker at AFI Fest.”

Will it release on the web?

It remains a mystery as to whether Apple will release the movie in the future with a new schedule or cancel the release all together for good. The film The Banker stars Samuel L. Jackson, Mackie, Nicholas Hoult, and Nia Long making it a star studded flick for the new streaming platform. It is one of the high profile movies Apple was betting to make a mark in the film/streaming industry.

However, with the new developments, the future of The Banker film remains uncertain. The movie was also scheduled to release on the Apple TV Plus streaming service in early 2020. Apple has not said whether the film will continue to release on its platform next year.
