Apple users can now pay to get instant access on terminals and transit gates using Express Transit on the iOS 12.3 update. How does the sound of being able to pass pay checkpoints with just a tap of your iPhone or Apple Watch?
The only caveat is the number of steps required to get the app running on your Apple Watch and iPhone. But after that, it will be smooth sailing without needing to pause or unlocking your iPhone to pay for the transit.
Transit system compatibility makes this convenience limited as of the moment, but as technology picks up and when more payment cards and banks join the picture, we could very well live in a contactless form of payment in the near future.
Express Transit requires that you have an iPhone 6s and above and the iOS 12.3 system update. Head to Settings, then Wallet and Apple Pay and choose Express Transit. Select a compatible card to use and run through the authentication process.
