Should you buy Pixel 4 over iPhone?

Should you buy Pixel 4 over iPhone?

On 15th October at an event in New York City (NYC), Google unveiled its upgraded flagship phones – the Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL. The smaller one of the two Pixel 4 starts at $799 for  the 64GB version and larger Pixel 4 XL starts at $899 for the same storage configuration. Google offering the purest vanilla version of Android on its flagship phones with stellar cameras, are they worth getting over an iPhone?

Google designs and manufactures the Pixel 4 in-house and it of course creates the software i.e Android. The approach is similar to that of the iPhone by Apple, however, the Pixel phones are unable to match the quality of the iPhone.

Oh Android!

The problem may be due to the fact that Android is not just made for the Pixel phone but for thousands of different Android phones as well. Whereas iOS is specifically tuned to work on the iPhones, Apple has an edge here and it shows: everything is buttery smooth on the iPhone whereas the Pixel phones have suffered from performance issues in the past.

Over the years, Apple has built a strong network of its retail outlets and service centers to offer a smooth sales and after-sales experience which is unmatched by any other smartphone manufacturer. On the other hand, Google has no such stores or dedicated service centres. Google relies on third-party stores and service centres to do the job; the company has worked with service centres to start authorized service centres which may be decent but can’t match the quality of work when done by the company itself.

The cameras on all the Pixel phones are great. The recently announced Pixel 4 is making big promises on improved photo quality and has many tricks up its sleeves. However, the recently launched iPhone 11 has much stronger camera with the addition of Deep Fusion which takes extremely detailed photos. By no means is the camera on the Pixel 3 bad compared to the iPhone 11 but the iPhone 11 does better in some cases.

If you are on a budget, get the iPhone 11 but it lacks a full-HD (1080p) display whereas the iPhone 11 Pro has a great display but it starts at $999. If you can live with a decent display, then iPhone 11 is the best choice but if you cannot compromise on the display quality, then consider the Pixel 4. However, if budget is not an issue, the iPhone 11 Pro is the best phone you can buy.
