Pixel 4 challenges iPhone’s FaceID unlock speed

Pixel 4 challenges iPhone’s FaceID unlock speed

Google released the Pixel 4 on 15th October at an event in New York City (NYC).It goes head to head with the iPhone 11 series with the company playing catch up in a lot of cases. The Pixel line offers the purest version of Android with one of the best camera performance but the lineup has suffered from many issues in the past and has never taken off.

The Pixel 3 and the Pixel 3 XL are great devices even by 2019’s standards with great cameras, amazing displays, and decent battery life. However, the problem with Pixels is its inconsistent performance; shouldn’t it perform the best as Google is creating both the hardware and the software? Indeed, yes but for some reason that’s not the case here.

It’s yet to be seen how the Pixel 4 performs. However, the Pixel 4 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 chip coupled with 6GB of RAM. The big news here is that Google has begun using its Project Soli’s MotionSense technology for implementing a range of accessibility features.

Since the release of the iPhone X till date, no other smartphone manufacturer has implemented a facial recognition tech as safe as Apple. It appears that Google wants to change that and it has shifted to facial recognition for unlocking the phone and other authentication purposes. It’s unclear as to how safe the system is when compared to the iPhone as of yet.

However, the big news here is Google’s claim that the facial recognition tech on the Pixel 4 is the fastest in the industry. It would have been interesting if Google also talked about the security aspects of the system and how the authentication process works. However, the company did talk about using Project Soli’s MotionSense tech to start the process of unlocking the phone as soon as the user reaches for the phone.

The Google Pixel 4 and the Pixel 4 XL hit the stores on 24th October. Check back later for more information.
