Sources say that Apple’s newest iPhone models will come with faster USB-C connections in line with adaptations from the MacBook and iPad Pro devices, but according to Japanese blog site Mac Otakara, Apple’s smartphone products will instead have lightning to USB-C adapters and 18W USB-C chargers.
This move will be a significant improvement over the fact that the tech giant has been shipping all their iPhones with the same 5W charger every year. Lightning won’t make an exit just yet, but at least new iPhone users will be able to take advantage of their device’s quick-charging capabilities without having to spend extra on accessories.
Last year, the iPad Pro started utilizing the USB-C port and came with 18W fast chargers. To get that capability, iPhone users had to spend $50 on lightning to USB-C adapters and the 18W fast charger. Apple’s decision to keep the lightning aspect will certainly ease the transition. What’s more, Mac users can now plug in their iPhones without needing an additional compatible cable.
