2020 MacBook Pro could use FaceID

MacBook Pro

The MacBook Pro is one of the finest laptops available in the market at present. The one addition that will make the laptop more advanced would be FaceID. It has been two years since the release of the iPhone X, the first device to sport the facial recognition technology.

Since then, the feature has been added to the iPad Pro. We expect Apple to add FaceID to the iPad Air as the company continues to ditch bezels and move to a gesture based navigation system. The future is truly button-less and wireless

FaceID is definitely a much more secure way of unlocking a device compared to TouchID. Many facial recognition technologies fail to meet security standard, however Apple’s FaceID uses multiple hardware components to make it one of the most secure ways of unlocking. The company uses a dot projection system, IR sensor, and a flood illuminator to make the working of FaceID possible.

Privacy first

All the data collected from FaceID components is stored on a secure T2 chip and the data is never uploaded to any of Apple’s servers, according to the company. In 2016, Apple released the current design MacBook Pro with TouchID which seemed like the easiest way of unlocking a machine.

However, since then, the use of FaceID has become so natural that consumers want facial recognition to unlock all their devices. It took Apple three years to bring TouchID from the iPhone to the Mac; TouchID was first introduced alongside the iPhone 5S in 2013.

If Apple is to take the same approach again, 2020 will mark the third year of FaceID. It will truly be a delight to use FaceID on a MacBook. Its very likely that Apple will first introduce FaceID on the MacBook Pro before introducing it on other MacBooks. At the same time, the company could also improve the front camera which has not been updated in years.
