Apple was considering reverse wireless charging with the iPhone 11

In this era of wireless tech, it’s really important to have an easy way of charging our wireless accessories. Samsung introduced reverse wireless charging with its wireless earbuds which allows its earphones case to charge from its supported wireless charging phones. The earphones case must be placed on the back of the phone where the wireless charging coil lies to charge the earphone case.

It was rumoured for a long time that Apple would pack this similar feature in its latest iPhones – 11, 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max. However, to our dismay we saw no such announcements at the Apple event or any details were mentioned on the company’s website. iFixit, the popular web blog that tears apart electronic devices to give a good glimpse at its internal structure, has once struck once again. The iPhone 11 and the iPhone 11 Pro models’ battery appears to have a second connector which sparks curiosity as to whether Apple changed its mind at the last minute.

iFixit’s teardown clears the reports that claimed that Apple’s latest iPhones pack reverse wireless charging but Apple didn’t mention it. Some believed that the company would enable the feature with a future over-the-air (OTA)  software update. However, the iFixit has confirmed that there is no part found in the new iPhones which could enable wireless charging in the future. The battery does have two connectors which points to a possibility that Apple was initially planning on including the parts needed to enable reverse wireless charging but decided to kill the idea.

It’s unclear as to why Apple didn’t include reverse wireless charging in its latest iPhones. It was highly believed that the Cupertino company would do so this year. Maybe Apple decided to save it for next year’s iPhone with a major design overhaul. But we at-least do know that Apple was considering adding such a feature with the help of the secondary connector on the battery of the new iPhones.
