Apple is set to unveil new updated iPad Pro models in April, according to Bloomberg. The rumours of the same have been swirling on the internet for a few months now. The most notable difference has to be the display – a new Mini LED screen set to replace the LCD technology used in the current generation iPad Pro. However, the report also adds that only the larger 12.9” 2021 iPad Pro model will use the superior display technology.

As expected with every iPad refresh, the processor of the upcoming iPad Pro will also be faster and likely power efficient in some way. Last year, Apple released the M1 chip for select Mac models, and the Bloomberg report adds that the new iPad Pro models will have chips with similar performance levels. The M1 chip is a 5nm chip, the iPhone has also moved onto 5nm chips with the A14 Bionic, and now only the iPad is due an update.

The other notable update on the upcoming iPad Pro will reportedly be the addition of Thunderbolt technology. The current generation iPad Pros support the use of USB-C for charging and data transfer. The use of Thunderbolt port on the iPad Pro will allow for much faster data transfers compared to the current generation USB-C technology found on the current generation iPad Pro.

The noted Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities reported in 2019 that future iPads will use Mini-LED displays. He also added that the company was working on MacBooks with Mini-LED display technology – could release later this year or sometime next year. Late last year, Kuo also added that the first device from Apple to use Mini-LED display technology would be the 12.9” iPad Pro.

An Apple Event was previously reported to be held in the month of March, however new reports suggest a product(s) launch event to be held in April.
