Buy the "iPhone 8" instead of iPhone XS

Apple has released the latest iPhones past fall, however, its earlier devices still are the better choice in many ways and they’re cheaper than ever before. Apple lowered the prices of some older devices after launching the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max in September. The most costly iPhone now surpasses $1,100, while a year old iPhone such as the iPhone 8 will set you back a more reasonable $600. Moreover, the price isn’t the sole reason to choose the iPhone 8 — its design and specifications are also competitive with the latest iPhones.

The iPhone 8 costs $400 cheaper than the iPhone XS

The iPhone 8 is an outstanding option if you are intending to buy a reasonably priced phone with up-to-date features and specifications. It starts at $599, or $ 24.95 monthly installments. If you’re looking for more storage, the price will rise considerably. iPhone with 64 GB costs $599, a 256 GB iPhone 8 priced at $749. Nevertheless, it’s a sweeter deal than the new iPhone XS, which starts at $ 999 and can cost up to $ 1,349.

The iPhone 8 is more slim and lighter than the iPhone XS

Not everyone fancies the slimmest, thinnest phone. But if that’s your preference, the solid option for would be buying iPhone 8.

iPhone 8:                                iPhone XS
Weight: 148 grams               Weight: 177 grams
Depth: 7.3 mm                       Depth: 7.7 mm

The fingerprint scanner and home button

While it may not be the advanced technology from Apple, people using Apple’s earlier phones still admires a physical home button — along with a fingerprint scanner to unlock the device. Starting with the iPhone X, in favor of Face ID, its facial recognition technology, Apple ditched both the home button and the fingerprint scanner. The Face ID is also used by Apple’s latest iPhone XS.

Water-resistant and Supports wireless charging

The iPhone 8 is compatible with Qi wireless chargers just like the latest iPhone XS. It is also water-resistant for up to 30 minutes in 1 meter of water. However, the iPhone XS is a bit enhanced version. Apple affirms it can be immersed for up to 30 minutes in 2 meters of water.

Can be updated to iOS 12.1.4

Every iPhone dating back to the iPhone 5S can be updated to iOS 12.1.4, indicating that the iPhone 8 can get Apple’s iOS in the same version as the iPhone XS. iOS 12.1.4 emphasizes some major updates, including a speed boost for older iPhones, a notification system change, a new Augmented Reality app, and much more.

The iPhone 8 has an advanced camera nearly equal to the iPhone XS

A few features that make the iPhone XS camera fabulous are missing from the iPhone 8. It has no portrait mode or portrait light on the front or rear cameras, it can’t do either Animoji or the new Memoji, and it has no 2X optical zoom.

Nonetheless, iPhone 8 is still equipped with a great camera. Its front camera has the same specs as the iPhone XS, including a 7-megapixel f/2.2 aperture lens and 1080p HD video. The rear camera of the iPhone 8 has the same wide-angle 12-megapixel lens with f/1.8 aperture as the iPhone XS, including the wide color capture, a quad-LED True Tone flash, and 4K video recording.
