Washington Post has reported that there were more than 1,500 instances of unwanted sexual advances in iOS chat apps. In the reviews, the publication analyzed reviews of 6 popular apps that gave users a chance to chat with random strangers.
Some of the complaints made mention of targeting children, but inappropriate behavior is prevalent in these apps. The Post has mentioned that Apple seems to be not keeping its promise to make the iOS environment safe.
The Cupertino-based company reacted by saying they do take action whenever there’s a report of abuse. Fred Sainz, Apple spokesman mentions that they review about 100,000 apps per week and take all reports seriously.
Apple has assigned an ‘adult’ rating on these random stranger chat apps, but Phillip Shoemaker, former App Store review director thinks they should be removed at the App Store altogether. Other watchdog organizations, including Protect Your Eyes and Organization for Social Media Safety, agree.
All vaping apps on the App Store were recently removed after a complaint.
