Today is the 30th year anniversary of the Berlin Wall’s destruction, and as a tribute Apple has posted a message on Apple.com Germany, with Apple CEO Tim Cook sharing a tweet about it as well.
On the main page of Germany Apple.com, all advertisements and product listings are removed. A full-page picture of the Berlin Wall and a quote is displayed, saying ‘for my thoughts tears the barriers and walls apart, the thoughts are free’.
Tim Cook, Apple CEO meanwhile has taken to Twitter and posted a reminder that being united is stronger than being divided in differences.
The Berlin Wall was constructed in 1961 and split West and East Germany for 28 years, 2 months and twenty-eight days. It was torn down in 1989 through a series of revolutions in Hungary and Poland.
Apple has redesigned its websites in remembrance to historical events before. In the US, the Apple.com homepage regularly celebrates Martin Luther King day in January.
