Apple announced that they will be expanding contactless IDs for 12 schools under the Apple Wallet app. The expansion means that more than 100,000 students can now access their IDs using their Apple Watch and iPhone.
Here’s a list of the new schools that will be getting Student ID support- Chowan University, North Alabama University, Louisburg College, Norfolk State University, State University of South Dakota, Arkansas State University, Vermont University, San Francisco University, Kentucky University, Tennessee University, Georgetown University, and Clemson University.
Students who are enrolled in the said schools can now add their ID in the Apple Wallet app and gain access to it on their Apple Watch and iPhone. Instead of taking out the physical card, they can just place their device near a reader to gain access or get special student discounts.
Contactless student ID was first introduced on the watchOS 5 and iOS 12 in pilot schools such as Duke University and Temple University. The expansion is just in time for the 2019-2020 school season.
