Apple has announced they will be removing Back to My Mac on all current and future versions of the macOS, starting July 1, 2019. The company has put up several notices that the service will be discontinued in macOS Mojave.
Recently, the Cupertino-based tech firm states specifically that Back to My Mac will no longer be available in the macOS. Moreover, recommended alternatives include using the iCloud Drive for remote desktop, screen sharing and file access.
Back to My Mac was created as an app that allowed Mac users to connect two Mac computers together for screen sharing and file transfer purposes. Essentially, a private network between two Mac devices is created, but users aren’t particular to the program due to its complicated nature.
For remote management purposes Apple recommends Apple Remote Desktop, currently priced at $80, but other third-party options such as LogMeIn and TeamViewer are available if you’re on a budget.
