Vehicles that collect Apple Maps data are set to begin their survey in Germany next week, says Frankfurter Allgemeine.
Some of the information gathered will be landmarks, signage and road details, which will be integrated into Apple Maps. The feature ‘Look Around’ where iOS users can explore the place in virtual 3D will be available once Apple has expanded outside the U.S.
Apple will be censoring license plates and faces that are shown in Look Around for privacy reasons. Keep in mind that Look Around will only become available when iOS 13 is released this fall and may be initially limited to parts of Hawaii, Nevada and California.
The Cupertino-based company intends to expand to more locations and have surveyed parts of Canada, United States, Japan, Puerto Rico, Andorra, Croatia, Portugal, Slovenia, Sweden, Spain, France, Italy, Ireland and the UK since the vehicles began roaming in 2015.
