Apple AirPods 2 Fake Ad Goes Viral, Fooling Everyone

Last updated: Mar 8, 2019 10:54 pm UTC

Apple AirPods 2

There has been a video making rounds on the internet about the new Apple AirPods 2 recently that has fooled many Apple rumours sites. In an elaborate marketing stunt, the video was created by the US-based marketing firm, Culprit Studios. The video was then sent by an anonymous user to several Apple product reporting websites, who all fell for it.

Looking at the video, however, it is understandable and easy to see why anyone would take the bait. The video implements most of Apple’s usual video marketing strategies, like dancing silhouettes (taken from the first AirPods ad) and pop music with a static vocal effect in the background that we have all come to associate with Apple.

Have a look for yourself and see if it’s convincing enough:

One of the websites that fell for the fake ad was MacRumors, who reported this, about the video,
“In both videos, the dancer whips her head around while wearing the AirPods, perhaps suggesting that Apple plans to market a version of the AirPods that better stays in the ears.

That would be in line with rumors that have suggested the AirPods will feature a new surface coating that’s more matte to enhance grip. There is no sign of black AirPods in either video, despite rumors suggesting Apple is working on a black color.

It’s possible black AirPods are still in the works and are shown off in a different video that we haven’t seen and it’s also possible Apple isn’t planning to release black AirPods at this time.”

MacRumors has since updated their post, clarifying that the ad was fake and has apologized to their readers for the mishap. Regardless, this goes to show that any reported rumor should always be taken with a grain of salt, and should never really be mistaken for facts.
