Urban Armor Gear’s Composite Case ($35) for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus ($40) is a co-molded plastic and rubber case with coverage for the sleep/wake button and volume controls. As with prior versions of the case, skid pads line the top and bottom. This time around, UAG has curiously left two small rectangular holes in the back of case, revealing tiny portions of the Apple logo and “iPhone” wording on the back of the iPhone 6 — less of the wording is revealed on the iPhone 6 Plus.
The case comes in a number of bold colors with different names — we received the orange Outland edition for iPhone 6 and black Scout edition for iPhone 6 Plus. Composite Case also comes with a screen protector, applicator card, and cleaning cloth.
Composite Case is one of the better case options we’ve seen so far for both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Speck’s CandyShell is a good comparison — while Speck’s case has a softer, more complete inner layer for the device, UAG’s case is no slouch, and the extra padding at the top and bottom of the case are a nice touch without adding much bulk.
The case is also surprisingly lightweight and lets users get a good grip. The design is still likely to be love-it-or-hate-it for most people — we don’t mind a case that’s not afraid of standing out from the pack. As for the small holes in the back of the case, we don’t quite understand it, but it’s not really a drawback.
