Review: Urban Armor Gear Composite Case for iPad Pro

Review: Urban Armor Gear Composite Case for iPad Pro

We’ve seen Urban Armor Gear’s Composite Case a number of times for a variety of iOS devices, and the familiar case has now made its way to iPad Pro. Rather than simply increasing the size of Composite Case for iPad Pro ($80), though, UAG has actually considered the features of Apple’s newest iPad. The case has a built-in holder for Apple Pencil, an aluminum kickstand that can be set into five different positions, and a removable piece that allows the iPad Pro to attach to a Smart Connector keyboard while the case is still on.

All of the ports are left exposed. There is no button coverage, but UAG claims the rubberized case with soft touch elements meets military drop test standards.

Composite Case’s Apple Pencil holder is in a perfect spot — placing the holder on the right side of the device makes it easily accessible without interfering with any ports or buttons, and it doesn’t get in the way of landscape viewing, either. The aluminum kickstand is nice, and we appreciate its numerous viewing angles.

One angle even allows the iPad Pro to be placed into portrait mode, but users must be careful about setting up the case in this mode on certain surfaces — otherwise you’ll find dings from where the stand digs in. We don’t fully recommend portrait mode for this reason.

Another nice touch, ensuring the case is compatible with many possible accessories, is the removable piece which exposes the iPad Pro’s Smart Connector. The hard plastic piece can quickly be installed or re-installed when Composite Case isn’t on the iPad Pro.

Few iPad Pro cases have been released yet, but from what we’ve seen, UAG’s Composite Case may be a bit steep for some when it comes to price.
