Review: Thinium ReCHARGE+ 2.0 Portable Charger + Battery Pack

Review: Thinium ReCHARGE+ 2.0 Portable Charger + Battery Pack

Thinium’s new ReCHARGE+ 2.0 aims to be a versatile and stylish option for users looking for an easy, portable charging solution to use while on the go. It combines a cordless charger with a 3,000 mAh battery pack and a unique docking system that includes interchangeable Lightning, micro USB, and USB-C connectors so that you charge just about any device wherever you happen to be without the hassle of keeping your iPhone in a battery case of dealing with running a wire between a battery pack and your device.

ReCHARGE+ 2.0 comes with a fair bit in the box; in addition to the main charging unit itself and the aforementioned adapters, Thinium has also packed in two metal plates that can be used for magnetically securing your iPhone or other smartphone to the power pack, extra suction cups that are used to hold the device in place, a kickstand attachment, and a booster insert to provide additional stability for unencased iPhones.

On the rear of ReCHARGE+ you’ll find the kickstand and a two-prong North American power connector that folds out so you can plug ReCHARGE+ directly into a wall outlet, either to simply charge its internal 3,000 mAh battery or use it as a direct charger for your iPhone or other smartphone.

A button on the left side powers on the internal battery and lets you check battery status, shown by four adjacent blue LEDs.

At the bottom front of ReCHARGE+ is the dock, which folds out from a flush position and uses one of the three included adapters — Lightning, micro USB, or USB-C — to connect to your device. The adapters fit into the dock snugly, but can be easily removed with a button on the bottom in case you want to use ReCHARGE+ with different devices.

The adapter can also be left in place when folding the dock back in, allowing ReCHARGE+ to fold down into an ultra-compact size for travel and storage.

In addition to the built-in dock and power connector, ReCHARGE+ also includes a standard USB-A port at the top that can used to recharge a standard USB-powered device from the internal battery, and a USB-A cable that folds out from the side to allow you to recharge the internal battery — or an attached device — from any USB power source in the event that’s more convenient than a wall plug. A kickstand on the back is also a thoughtful addition for users who like to prop up their devices to watch video.

The rather anemic 3,000 mAh battery in ReCHARGE+ 2.0 is definitely not enough to recommend it on its own, but we also think it’s fair to say that’s more secondary to the overall package that Thinium has put together here.
