Review: The Joy Factory Pinpoint Precision Stylus

Review: The Joy Factory Pinpoint Precision Stylus

It seems The Joy Factory has reached a point where it’s more interested in rebadging OEM products than focusing on totally new accessories. Following its aXtion Bold for iPad Air — a case using seemingly the same parts as products from Hard Candy Cases/Gumdrop Cases — is Pinpoint Precision Stylus ($50). The AAAA battery-powered, 2.4mm-tipped stylus would be quite interesting, were it not for the fact that it’s almost identical to Lynktec’s TruGlide Apex Stylus; both were shown at the 2014 CES.

Except for a series of five ridges in Lynktec’s pen, and the design of the back end, these are the same product, down to the off-brand battery and extra nib that are included. It works just as well.

Pinpoint Precision Stylus does have two factors that earn it a slightly higher B+ rating compared to the general recommendation offered for TruGlide Apex Stylus. The first is the built-in clip at the back end, which some people may find useful.

Even more importantly, there’s the price. The Joy Factory sells the pen for $10 less than Lynktec, which makes it a more reasonable purchase. It’s enough to propel this one to a strong general recommendation; if you’re going to pick between the two, it makes sense to go with the less expensive version that offers a clip.
