Review: SwitchEasy Blocks Customizable Dock Building Set for Apple Watch

Review: SwitchEasy Blocks Customizable Dock Building Set for Apple Watch

SwitchEasy’s Blocks ($20) is one of the strangest products we’ve seen in a while. It’s a customizable dock building set for Apple Watch, made of LEGO-style blocks (SwitchEasy notes the set is “compatible with leading manufacturing building blocks”). SwitchEasy has included a charging cradle with two interchangeable clips — for either the Sport charger or the metal-accented Apple Watch charger.

The set also comes with 92 blocks in random colors, and sets of directions to create an Apple Watch Dock and a dual dock that can charge an Apple Watch or an iPhone.

It’s worth noting that Blocks’ directions don’t compete with the step-by-step directions you’d find in a LEGO set. Not all the block colors match what you’ll find on SwitchEasy’s guide, and both the direction sets for the Apple Watch “presentation stand” and the dual dock will require a little extra thought and building past the basic guide. When the docks are put together, they do charge both the Apple Watch and an iPhone without issue.

But many users will wonder if it’s really worth the headache.

Blocks is niche to begin with, but unlike a LEGO-themed iPad mini case or iPhone case, we have to wonder just how many people would want this. Apple Watch isn’t aimed at children — we’re guessing very few kids have one — and there also can’t be too many adults looking to dock their $349+ smartwatch on a knockoff LEGO set at the end of the day. That being said, we always appreciate a fun idea, and Blocks is appealing as an affordable starter kit for Apple Watch-wearing LEGO enthusiasts.
