Review: Skinit Skins for iPad (3rd-Generation)

Review: Skinit Skins for iPad (3rd-Generation)

There’s no shortage of options when it comes to iPad-shaped stickers, but here’s another for you: Skinit’s Skins ($30), which are now available for Apple’s third-generation tablet. Available in hundreds of designs, these vinyl stickers can display everything from custom images to licensed properties from professional sports leagues, Disney, and more. Each sheet comes with two stickers: one for coverage around the bezel, and a second for the rear of the iPad. Once you’ve peeled one off, simply line it up and stick the protector in place.

Removal is easy, and leaves no residue.

Of the iPad stickers we’ve seen in the past, the Skins from Skinit most closely resemble those from GelaSkins, which retail for the same price. GelaSkins’ tolerances are a bit tighter, especially around the buttons and switches at the top left corner. Skinit leaves one opening that stretches from the top of the side switch to the bottom of the volume rocker, wheres GelaSkins offers individual cutouts for each. Otherwise, they’re almost identical.

Both have scoops at the corners that leave them exposed while accommodating the tablet’s curved edges; it’s an issue no sticker manufacturer we’ve seen has yet been able to fully solve. The sticker stretches almost all the way to the four edges, offering as much protection as any other we’ve seen. Around the bezel, the coverage is equally as good, with precise cutouts for the Home button, light sensor, and FaceTime camera.

Compared to GelaSkins, Skinit’s Skins are only missing one thing, and that’s the free wallpapers that serve as an extension of the design.
