Okay, we’ll get a couple of things out of the way up front. Yes, Macally’s Reusable 4-Way Privacy Screen Overlay for iPad 2 is a $50 piece of screen film for the iPad 2. And yes, you can totally see those eight huge black circles on the edges of the white iPad 2’s screen.
But they’re there for a reason. Unlike most of the similarly crazy expensive privacy film out there, Macally’s version is designed to be easily removed and reused whenever you need to pull it off and put it back on again — only the rubbery circles stick to your iPad’s screen, eliminating the issues with hairs and dust that can get trapped under the surface of other supposedly reusable pieces of film. As the name suggests, the privacy of whatever you’re viewing is protected regardless of whether someone’s looking at your device from the top, bottom, left, or right, and whether the iPad 2’s in portrait or landscape mode.
The tradeoff is a dimming of the display and off-axis visibility of diagonal lines. Plus, those eight circles. Black iPad 2 owners mightn’t mind as much.
