Review: LifeProof LifeActív Power Pack

Review: LifeProof LifeActív Power Pack

Although LifeProof is best known for its rugged waterproof iPhone cases, like other case makers the company has started to branch out a bit into other accessories, and one of its first is a fairly natural extension for the outdoor enthusiast in the form of the LifeActív Power Pack. It’s designed to withstand the elements and packs 10,000 mAh of backup power and a built-in LED flashlight.

Review: LifeProof LifeActív Power Pack

LifeActív is about the size of an iPhone 8 Plus on the front face, and a little over twice as thick. It weights about half a pound.

On the front is a single button accompanied by four blue LEDs that allow you to check the charge level and control the LED flashlight. LifeActív comes with a USB-A to micro USB charging cable; you’ll need to supply your own USB power source and your own Lightning cable for charging iOS devices. Two-amp charging is also supported, allowing LifeActív to juice back up fairly quickly.

Standard USB-A and micro-USB charging ports are found under a cover on the bottom end of LifeActív, which also includes two anchors for attaching a lanyard so that you can keep the power pack tethered to something. LifeActív is submersible up to two metres for one hour, provided the port door is closed, which means you’ll still need to be careful not to drop it in the water when you’re actually using it to charge your iPhone.

LifeProof also promises that LifeActív can handle drops of up to four feet. Naturally, it’s also dirt and dust proof and snow proof.

On the other and of LifeActív is a bank of four LEDs — two white, two red. Pressing and holding the button turns the LEDs on or off, and a short press will cycle through four different modes: two intensities of normal white light, a steady red light, and a flashing red light.
