Lenmar’s Maven ($100) for iPhone 6 packs a 3000 mAh battery into a matte two-piece hard case. The iPhone 6 is installed and removed through a top slider piece. Maven features a forward-facing speaker port, and when the case is turned on, it enables users to sync and charge the iPhone. There’s no button coverage on Maven, but there is a slight lip for screen protection.
The camera hole is also probably slightly larger than it needs to be. Lenmar has printed the charging directions on the inside of the case, which is a thoughtful touch.
A glowing LED “X” on the back can be pressed to show how much power is left — four quadrants of the X light up — and users can hold the button for three seconds to start or stop charging. In our testing, Maven fully recharged a depleted iPhone 6 in 2:22.
After a partial iPhone battery depletion, Maven delivered another charge of 24 percent in just 24 more minutes. This means that Maven not only outperformed its own claims, hitting 124 percent — but it’s the best iPhone 6 battery case we’ve seen so far in total charging percentage, if only by a few percentage points. The battery case has a 2A input, so recharging Maven’s battery should be relatively quick.
Maven’s “Undead Power” claims are true, as the battery gave us no issues, and provided us with more charge than anticipated. However, we’ve already seen lower-priced iPhone 6 battery cases with similar battery capacities and other features not seen here.
