Review: Griffin Technology Disko Case with Motion-Activated Lights for iPod

[Editors’ Note: On November 1, 2006, iLounge published The 2007 iPod Buyers’ Guide, with more than 30 brand new, capsule-sized product reviews – only for products we considered to be amongst the very best we’ve seen throughout the year. The short review below is excerpted from the Guide, which you can download here.]

Cases with integrated electronics are rare, a fact which makes Disko an instant standout: each one has two batteries inside to guarantee longevity for the 16 integrated lights, which come in three colors and flash in five different patterns.

To activate the lights, just shake the case, which includes rear shells that fit 30GB or 60/80GB iPods. A nano version is also available.

We’re not going to tell you that Disko is more than a novelty design – it’s basically a toy case for kids, which is where it appeared in the Guide.

But for its target audience, it’s like many toys – fun to show off for a little while, but in need of greater depth before it becomes a real superstar. The light patterns are very simplistic, and do little more than add a little bit of sparkle to clear case designs.
