Gear Guide: Gem Spinner

Last updated: Feb 26, 2019 1:44 pm UTC
By Haider Ali Khan

Hi,

We are sending you a promotional code, description, and web page link for our new game, Gem Spinner, for the iPhone and iPod Touch. We’d be delighted for you to review it on ilounge.com.

Tiny Bite Games is a garage start-up founded by Michael Katz and Nick Hodapp.  Nick and Michael are casual game-industry veterans. Both of us worked at Oberon Games, and Michael worked at Sierra. At Oberon we worked on the Microsoft Vista in-box games (Solitaire, Minesweeper, Hearts, etc.), and on Oberon’s online multiplayer platform. At Sierra, Michael worked on the Hoyle franchise.

We made Gem Spinner because we enjoy designing games.

We believe we have a genuinely new and exciting game play mechanic, and we have been gratified that reviews on the App Store and one internet review so far (http://www.frapstr.com/2009/01/15/premium-spotlight-gem-spinner/) have called out how well designed, novel, and addictive the game is.

We know you must get a lot of review requests for new App Store games claiming they have something unique for you to look at (in fact, we imagine that even if you limit yourself to the category of gem matching games you probably get that claim a lot). Well, we are making the same claim. But we swear on a stack of bibles 100 miles high that we genuinely believe our game has something new that you will find intriguing and rewarding. We truly believe we have a “sleeping classic” (as one reviewer said), and we would love your help in waking it up a little.

The game has been play tested like crazy, and there’s an in-game, animated, narrated tutorial, so at the very least we can absolutely guarantee that you’ll have an easy time getting started and seeing what it’s about.

Thank you for your consideration and we hope you have fun playing.

Michael Katz

App Store description:

“[Gem Spinner] completely changes the whole dynamic of the match-3 formula, and in a good way that doesn’t come off as an attempt to be different just for the sake of being different. Real thought was put into the design of this game, both functionally and aesthetically, and it shows.

There’s a genuinely entertaining game here with lasting appeal that brings some unexpected twists to the table — literally and figuratively — and adds a savoury dash of logical thinking to this otherwise staid puzzle formula.”—frapstr.com

Gem Spinner is an exciting new match-3 for the iPhone and iPod Touch. It’s based on the popular gem-swapping game play of Bejeweled, but adds some great twists – some like Tetris, some brand new – that make it much more engaging and thought provoking, but still easy to learn and play.

Gems are arranged inside of pieces of different shapes and sizes. Swap adjacent gems to match three in a row. Double-tap a gem to spin its piece 180 degrees. Match all the gems in a piece to clear the piece from the board.
