Available in a number of official Pantone colors, Case Scenario’s Pantone Universe Book Case ($50-$70) has arrived for large and small iPads. The version for the 9.7″ tablet is the more expensive of the two, as is usually the case. Other than their sizes, they are almost identical in structure and appearance.
Pantone Universe Book Case is made of polyurethane plastic, and although Case Scenario’s website lists it as “PU Leather,” there’s nothing about the material that would make you confuse it for cowhide.
One panel makes up the front and back covers of the case, while a tablet holder is grafted on the inside. Both versions of the case consist of a single Pantone color with a white strip along the right edge of the lid listing the color name and number. The larger case has stitching separating the colors, and also running around the perimeter.
The Book Case iPad holders aren’t impressive.
Each tablet is sandwiched between pieces of polyurethane with considerable bezel coverage. However, in addition to the necessary openings for the ports, speakers, and buttons, all four corners of the tablet are fully exposed. This includes the top left corner, from the right of the Sleep/Wake button to below the volume down button, and jutting in for the camera. Your iPad can be positioned on grooves inside the front cover for viewing angles—four for the iPad, two for the iPad mini—and the magnetic locking cover holds very strongly shut on each case, although the larger one had to be broken in a bit.
