Review: Amzer Crusta for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Review: Amzer Crusta for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus

Amzer’s Crusta ($45) case for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus seems like a pretty impressive package. For a reasonable price — the same for both new iPhone models — Crusta offers full button coverage, including ringer switch coverage, and dust protection plugs for the headphone and Lightning ports. Crusta is a hard shell plastic case with a transparent glass back to show off the phone. A textured rubber ring fits snugly around the shell for extra protection. On top of that, the case also comes with a tempered glass screen protector and a belt clip holster.

Amzer claims Crusta can resist drops of up to 6 feet. The case comes in a number of color combinations.

Crusta has a very good fit on both the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Unlike a lot of multi-layered cases, it’s easy to insert Crusta’s rubber ring around the two-piece plastic shell. The tempered glass screen protector — which is easy to apply and works with no issues on the iPhone screen — adds more protection, though its use is completely optional. Button and port coverage is very well done.

The sleep/wake and volume control buttons respond well, and though the ringer switch cover felt a bit odd at first, it worked fine. Unlike some heavy-duty cases, the camera is not protected — we’d put Crusta just a notch below those extreme options for total protection.

The look of Crusta may prove a bit polarizing. Amzer uses a dual color scheme, and the rubber ring covering the edges gives off the distinct feel and look of tire tread. This is a bit of a contradiction with the sleek tempered glass back, which shows off the iPhone’s rear. We don’t really care about holsters, but Crusta includes one as an added bonus for those who still use them.

Crusta for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus is a pleasant surprise.
