Xpod Seeks Beta Testers

Update: Tex9 has changed the name from Xpod to xTunes iPod plugin. As you may remember there is already software made for the iPod named Xpod from BITcom.

Xpod, a plugin developed by Tex9, enables the iPod to be used on the Linux OS via the xTunes application. If you need an iTunes for Linux, check Tex9’s xTunes software. It has been designed to work very similar to iTunes. Patrick , the programmer behind the Xpod beta software for Linux users wants volunteer beta testers.

“We’re looking for willing and able testers, preferably with experience reporting bugs. They need to have an iPod of course and there are some other desirables like kernel building experience and access to a Mac to restore their iPods in case a bug corrupts it.”

Check to see if your iPod’s warranty has been extended

iLounger, Ryan spotted an informative service on Apple’s iPod Service webpages. You can use the online form to check if your iPod is still under warranty beyond its 90 day period.
You will need an Apple ID and password to check the status of your warranty. You must enter your iPod’s serial number, and date of purchase to get the correct information. Our own Aaron Steele checked his iPod warranty status and received the following information:

Serial Number: ******************
Date of Purchase: 11/12/01
Warranty: Still Under Warranty

“According to our records, your iPod (5 GB) is still under warranty.

Apple’s limited warranty does not cover damage which is the result of an accident, abuse, misuse, or misapplication. If it is determined that your product has failed for one of these reasons, it will be either returned to you unrepaired, or you will be contacted with a quote to repair it out of warranty. If your warranty has been voided through accident, abuse, misuse, or misapplication you should acknowledge that below so that credit card information can be collected to avoid delays in repair.”

iPod, You Pod, Will We All Pod?

BusinessWeek online has released a story by Charles Haddad about how the iPod MP3 player has propelled Apple into being a niche consumer electronics company.

“This fledgling market is wide open. No company or group of companies has cornered handheld music players as Microsoft and Intel have done with PCs.

And it’s a market with a young demographic that values style. These are consumers willing to pay a premium for something they consider exceedingly cool.”

Customize with iPodSkinz

A recent visit to the MacSkinz website revealed some interesting news about upcoming products to customize your iBook, Titanium and iPod. MacSkinz (formerly known as AppleSkinz) designs and manufactures G3 and G4 side panels for customizing your Mac tower with various graphics. Among the designs are the American flag, simulated wood grains and various colored flames. There is no official date for the release.

“Our molds are finished for the 12” & 14” iBooks, the iPod and the Titanium and we are now running samples and polishing the molds.”

Doug Griffith, creator of the iPodSkinz (and the ModPod stand) added the following, “As it stands, the iPod Skinz are to be made of .020 thick polycarbonate. There will be cut-outs for both the controls and the display window. It will be held in place by small pieces of double-sided adhesive at the corners. I should be set-up to do custom Skinz also. Any of this could change though, depending on the production process”
