Forums: Important info on a serious iPod problem and solution

iLounger, “stroft” writes in the forums:

“After using my iPod for a day or two, configuring iTunes to transfer songs manually and use the iPod as a FireWire HD, I accidentally forgot to drag the iPod icon to the trash before unplugging the FireWire cable. I started listening to some music, and everything seemed to work just fine. But when I returned to my computer (titanium pb g4), a series of error dialog boxes had popped up on the screen, prompting me to reconnect the iPod to my computer. I did as instructed, and this is when the madness started.”

Software: iPod Free File SynX 2.2 for OS X

Changes for v2.2:

  • When the source is an iPod: Changed the way to access the music files on an iPod. The iPod helper application, which required the classic environment, is no longer necessary (hooray :).
  • Small corrections and enhancements as always.

Software: XPlay beta testers needed

Macsonly reports, Brian Landwehr of Mediafour, is seeking beta testers for their XPlay software. “Anyone interested in participating in the beta program needs to have access to both an Apple iPod and a Windows Me, 98SE, 2000 or XP system with an available FireWire (1394 or i.LINK) port.” You’ll need to fill out their questionnaire.

Hardware: The splash proof, Happy Aqua case from Japan

This was first reported by the Japanese iPod website, iPodUser.

Pioneer Corp., Japan is offering the Happy Aqua, a splash proof plastic enclosure with an internal speaker to connect to your MD player or other portable audio player. It’s also the perfect size for an iPod… never know when you might want to take your tunes into the shower. The website indicates it’s sold out, but would be shipping again in late January. We’re not even sure if U.S. residents can place an order.
