First Take: New iPod

MacNN has a first take reaction to the new iPod, accessories and features.

“The new, solid-state wheel mechanism feels smooth and glossy. Presumably because the iPod’s control is now immobile, the center button’s click is more refined and overall construction quality is improved.”

Hardware: iTrip FM Transmitter for iPod

MacMinute has a report from the Expo on Griffin Technology’s iTrip. It’s an FM transmitter that attaches directly to the iPod via the FireWire port. Unlike other FM transmitters the iTrip provides over 100 frequencies available from within the U.S.


and over 250 frequencies internationally. The frequencies can be chosen from a list on the iPod’s LCD display. This is the first software developed from a third party vendor that installs onto the iPod. The iTrip uses the iPod for power and Griffin Technology insures us that the power drain is minimal. Griffin is stll working on the final version and expects to ship in September for $29.99.

iPod for Windows

Apple has announced the rumored iPod for Windows. The new model will use MusicMatch’s Jukebox application for syncing the iPod to your PC. It will be available in late August.

System rewuirements: PC with built-in FireWire or a Windows-certified FireWire card and Windows Me, Windows 2000, or Windows XP Home or Professional.
