Mobile payments company Square has quietly updated its small white credit card reader with a battery and encryption. VentureBeat reports that perhaps in response to increasing pressure from PayPal, which recently announced that it will accept mobile payments using a similar, encrypted device, Square has started shipping all new readers with encryption.
