In honor of Opening Day in the MLB, Apple has rolled out some improvements to Siri’s baseball knowledge, but we’ve found there’s still a lot of room for improvement. The personal assistant is supposed to be able to provide more detailed statistics, including historical data going back to the beginning of baseball records, but simple questions like, “What was Ty Cobb’s best single-season batting average?” returned, “I don’t know who leads the league in batting average,” so she can’t even answer the question we didn’t ask, much less the one we did.
Sometimes Siri got it right, returning career stats for Frank Thomas after prompting us to select one of the slugger’s former teams.
Other times Siri seemed to be getting close, but then hit us with a curve ball. Asking about Ken Griffey, Jr.‘s all-time MLB stats prompted her to ask us to choose one of his former teams, then referred us to the latest box score for the Mariners once we selected that team.
Siri at least has the good sense to know the Pirates are on top of the National league right now, but her new knowledge and responses still need some work to impress any diehard baseball fans. [via The Verge]
