Optoma has announced details of its upcoming PK-101 Pico Pocket Projector, including iPod compatibility. The Pico uses DLP projection and an LED light source to project an image of up to 60 inches from its four-ounce, roughly 2″x.6″x4” body.
Other features include a rechargeable battery offering up to 1.5 hours of battery life, a Mini USB power input, a 1000:1 contrast ratio, and an included tripod adaptor, standard A/V cable (RCA to Mini-Jack), and iPod kit with Dock Connector cable, and a carrying bag. According to the New York Times, the Pico will connect to older fourth- and fifth-generation iPods via a headphone jack cable, while newer iPods and iPhones will connect via the Dock Connector adapter.
While video output will be capped at a lower 480×320 resolution than the maximum output capabilities of current iPods and iPhones, users might not mind due to the natural blur of such a small-lensed projector. The Optoma Pico Pocket Projector will be available later this month and will sell for $430.
