Apple has released a big update to its companion app for the 2017 Worldwide Developers Conference, scheduled to begin next Monday. WWDC 6.0 features a number of significant improvements, including the ability to use almost all of the features in the app without signing in with an Apple ID.
The app now provides curated video playlists based on featured themes, a new “Venue” tab that provides information on the venue, and interactive venue and street maps for the local area. The update also adds an iMessage app that provides some exclusive stickers for WWDC attendees to share.
Apple TV support, introduced last year in in version 5.0, also allows users to view and stream both live videos from this year’s event and archived videos from past years’ conferences on the big screen, and the app will preserve playback position across devices, allowing users to begin watching a video on one device, such as an iPad, and then pick up where they left off on another device such as an Apple TV.
Push notifications in the app help keep attendees up to date on important information for various events during the conference, and indoor location support will help navigate around the San Jose McEnery Convention Center. Attendees can also add their conference pass to Wallet for faster check-in.
