According to a report, Samsung is warning its other customers that supply of NAND flash chips will be cut sharply in July thanks to an Apple order for 50 million 8Gb-equivalent chips, mostly for use in iPhones.
DigiTimes reports that supply will also be affected due to capacity reductions made by Samsung in April and May in an attempt to reduce oversupply.
Despite Apple’s large order, many industry insiders are still in doubt about its impact, noting that Apple already purchased 25 million 8Gb-equivalent NAND flash chips from Samsung in June, and stating that future Apple orders will depend largely on iPhone sales.
