Apple has announced that, starting this fall, its App Development with Swift curriculum will be offering in over 30 community colleges through the United States. Designed by engineers and educators at Apple, the full-year course is geared toward students with no programming experience, taking them to the point of building fully-functional apps of their own design for the macOS and iOS platforms.
“We’ve seen firsthand how Apple’s app ecosystem has transformed the global economy, creating entire new industries and supporting millions of jobs,” said Apple CEO Tim Cook. “We believe passionately that same opportunity should be extended to everyone, and community colleges have a powerful reach into communities where education becomes the great equalizer.”
Apple’s press release highlights the involvement of Austin Community College as one of the first adopters, along with Northeast Mississippi Community College, Northwest Kansas Technical College and additional campuses in the Alabama Community College System, and noting public support for the move from public officials such as Austin Mayor Steve Adler and Alabama Governor Kay Ivey.
