As expected from recent reports, Apple today announced the new 4-inch iPhone SE. Apple VP Greg Joswiak took the stage to highlight the new addition to the company’s iPhone lineup, explaining that, despite the popularity of larger-screened iPhone models, a market for a 4-inch iPhone still exists, as “some people love smaller phones” and many users are still new to the iPhone entirely, especially in markets such as China.
Internally, the new iPhone SE includes most of the capabilities of the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s, in a smaller four-inch package, including the 64-bit A9 and M9 motion coprocessor chips, which power always-on “Hey Siri” along with similar camera specs to the larger-screened models, including a 12MP iSight camera with 4K and 1080p/60fps video recording, Retina Flash, and Live Photos support, improved LTE and Wi-Fi support, improved battery life, and NFC hardware to support Apple Pay.
The new iPhone SE will be available for pre-order Mar. 24, to be available the following Thursday, Mar.
31. The iPhone SE is being offered in two capacities — 16GB and 64GB, priced at $399 and $499 respectively.
