On the heels of last month’s Airmail for iOS update, Bloop has now released Airmail 3.0 for the Mac ($10), bringing it closer to feature parity with the iOS version, with a whole collection of improvements. If you like to heavily configure and customize your email experience or are a power user that likes to integrate your email with a ton of third-party apps, then Airmail is definitely the email app for you, and the new features in version 3 add many of the little things missing from the prior version, making the experience even better.

In Airmail 3, you can now create Smart Folders to ferret out emails based on specified search criteria, and Gmail users will be right at home here, since Airmail uses the exact same search parameters with which you’re already familiar.

The new version also adds support for VIP contacts and VIP notifications — something that the iOS version has had since the beginning but was conspicuously absent from the Mac side until now — and of course VIP lists will sync seamlessly between the iOS and Mac versions via iCloud, along with rules and Smart Folders. Rules can also now be configured to forward messages, and Send Later support has been added for Gmail and Exchange users, allowing you to delay the sending of an email to a future date and time. Menus, gestures, keyboard shortcuts, and folders can now all be customized, rules can be exported and imported, and new actions allow you to easily unsubscribe from mailing lists.

The message rendering engine has also seen some improvements, along with redesigned threads, support for Gmail Primary Inbox, and integrations with Asana and Trello. It’s a great update for existing Airmail fans, and those who have been hesitant to take the plunge may find it’s worth coming back and giving this one a look.
