While the big hit today in the Mac world was Apple’s introduction of the iMac with a Retina 5K Display, the venerable Mac mini ($499—$999) had a place in the spotlight as well. Apple’s diminutive little powerhouse gets a nice technology refresh and drops the starting price by $100 for an even better value for those wanting to dip their toes into the world of Macs.
The update brings 802.11ac Wi-Fi, Thunderbolt 2, fourth-generation Intel Core CPUs, and a graphics performance boost of 90% while still remaining energy efficient.
The Mac mini will come in three standard models.
The base model packs a 1.4 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.7 GHz, 4GB of RAM, a 500GB hard drive, and an Intel HD Graphics 5000 GPU. For $200 more, users get a 2.6 GHz dual-core Intel Core i5 with double the RAM and HD storage and Intel Iris Graphics.
