Algoriddim’s djay app has pretty much set the standard for digital DJ’ing, having debuted for the Mac back in 2006 and then of course, it later morphed into impressive iPad and iPhone versions. Now, however, Algoriddim has taken its flagship app to the next level with djay Pro ($50), a landmark update and redesign that brings the Mac version more in-line with the highly popular iOS versions, while aiming to take advantage of the full power available on the latest Mac platforms and build a user interface that is powerful enough for pros, yet accessible enough for the average consumer. The new version, rewritten as a native 64-bit application, provides a 60fps graphics engine and is optimized for the Retina Displays on the MacBook Pros and new iMacs. A $50 price tag is the 40 percent-off launch price for an unestablished amount of time.

Providing all of the tools that a modern performing DJ needs, djay Pro also incorporates tight integration with both iTunes and Spotify to provide instant access to a huge library of tracks. As always, the app focuses on providing the best possible sound quality, and this latest version incorporates high-def waveforms, four decks, audio effects, and integration with a wide variety of third-party DJ kits and MIDI controllers – over 50 different models are supported out of the box. The entire UI is highly customizable and responsive, with vertical and horizontal four-deck mixing layouts, custom cross-fader assignments, and multiple waveform layouts. Advanced features include Automix for automatic, beat-matched mixes, with variable automatic transitions.

Integration with The Echo Nest provides a recommendation engine for an Automix Radio feature. Advanced DJs can also take advantage of sync, cue points, looping, skipping, scrubbing, slip mode, and beat grid editing. A collection of state-of-the-art audio effects are available via in-app purchase, and up to three effects can be chained on each deck. iCloud integration is also here to allow users of the iOS versions to sync cue points, beat grids, in-app purchases, and more between platforms.
