Twelve South still makes some of our all-time favourite iPhone cases, so we were particularly happy to see that the company had iPhone X versions of its entire lineup ready for the iPhone X right on launch day. All of the same cases we’ve come to know are here, from the venerable and unique BookBook ($60) to the elegant Journal ($70) to the more minimalist RelaxedLeather ($50), the latter of which is also now available in a cool and exclusive Deep Teal version.
BookBook and Journal remain available in the same color options as before, while RelaxedLeather loses the Dried Herb and Warm Taupe colors in favor of the new Deep Teal. All of the cases otherwise have essentially the same specs as their iPhone 7/8 counterparts, with BookBook sporting the same four card slots and Journal including three, each with one slot containing a window for your ID card.
For now at least, RelaxedLeather is also only available for the iPhone X “with pockets” version, which includes two slots for credit cards or other ID.
The sleek modern look of the iPhone X makes the BookBook even more whimsical, combining vintage old-world leather charm with modern glass-and-steel. BookBook’s inner shell is still removable so you can use the iPhone X without the wallet portion, although it’s the same minimally protective shell as before.
Journal’s full-grain leather remains a cut above BookBook in feel, and includes a built-in non-removable composite shell with matching leather sides and a raised edge that provides an extra degree of protection. RelaxedLeather is a much more minimalist case that’s crafted with hand burnished leather along the edges and corners and a quilted microfibre lining inside, with a casual upscale look and feel, and still includes a raised front edge and covered buttons for solid drop protection.
