We’ve long been fans of Twelve South’s style, and the company’s BookBook cases for iPhone and iPad devices are among the classiest we’ve seen. So we were quite pleased to see the company announce that its BookBook for iPad ($80) is fully compatible with Apple’s new fifth-generation iPad . Although we’re not entirely surprised — any non-fitted case for the original iPad Air should be able to handle the new iPad — it’s good to see companies taking the guesswork out of this by making it clear to their customers.

BookBook for iPad is available in the same classic black and vintage brown colours ($80), or the special Rutledge Edition ($90).
Of course, it’s the same BookBook for iPad that we’ve come to know and love, with genuine handcrafted and distressed leather for a unique weathered and vintage look while still offering a reasonably high degree of protection with its hardback covers, reinforced corners, and rigid spine. The iPad fits into a sleeve inside allowing it to be angled in several different positions for viewing or touchscreen typing, and a soft microfibre inside the front cover keeps the screen scratch free. Gold embossing and lettering on the spine completes the classic vintage book look, and a zipper keeps the case securely closed for when you’re out and about with your iPad.

Although BookBook for iPad hasn’t changed significantly since we reviewed it five years ago, we’d make the argument that it’s hard to improve on a classic. While not everybody will be on board with the idea of putting a shiny modern iPad into a vintage case, there’s a lot to appreciate in Twelve South’s high quality design, and we particularly like the fact that BookBook is one of the very few cases that actually looks better after it’s been through some everyday wear and tear.
