Venerable stand maker Thought Out is back with another iteration in its product lineup, the PED5 Grand for iPhone. It’s a classic Thought Out stand design, made from solid steel and weighted and balanced for stability.
This isn’t your typical lightweight aluminum stand — it’s got a serious heft to it, but we think that’s a good thing for something that you’re going to want to stay in place on your desk or kitchen counter.
Four rubberized grips hold an iPhone of any size in place — they’re adjustable with four screws so you can size them appropriately, and they’ll even go wide enough to work with some of the largest cases we’ve seen. Once you’ve adjusted the grips, your iPhone can be popped in and out with only a bit of force, and a steel ball joint lets you position your iPhone in pretty much any orientation you could want.
A slot in the rear of the stand also provides a cable guide so you can easily feed a Lighting cable through from behind the stand. It’s a well thought out stand (no pun intended), and while we’re not sure there’s as much demand for iPhone stands as there is for iPads, if you frequently need to look at your iPhone hands-free, such as when working at your kitchen counter, PED5 Grand is a very solid and reasonably-priced option.
