Lunatik’s upcoming Epik Apple Watch Kit combines a band with a rugged cover that protects the Apple Watch. There are four different types of Epik kit: a polycarbonate cover with silicone band ($70) and an aluminum cover with a link band ($200) represent the low and high ends of the spectrum. We received two kits in the mid-range: aluminum with silicone band ($140), and aluminum with leather band ($150).

The two band pieces are screwed into the aluminum cover itself — these kits don’t use the Apple Watch’s grooves for bands. The kits come with two extra screws, an allen wrench, and a small screwdriver for connecting the band to the cover.
Epik definitely adds some bulk to the Apple Watch, and its look won’t be for everyone. But if you like the strong industrial design, the kit certainly does add protection, and it doesn’t interfere with the smartwatch’s sensors, either.

Unlike other covers we’ve seen, the Epik cover also covers the digital crown and side button on the watch — the kit’s own crown and button work fine, though the feel of the crown is a bit different. Because of the installation process, though, this isn’t the kind of cover you’ll be popping on and off. Lunatik designed Epik to stay on the watch all the time.
